Several OTC Drugs Recalled For Unusual Odor

Comments Off

Several over-the-counter medicines, including Tylenol, are being recalled by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to several reports of mildew-like odor from the pills.

The recall involves packages sold as far back as June 23, 2008. In total, 27 medications are involved in the recall and include: Benadryl, Motrin, Rolaids, Simply Sleep, St. Joseph and Tylenol products.

The FDA said, about 70 people have been either sickened by the odor — including nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. No serious medical reactions have been reported.

Only certain lot numbers of each product are affected by the recall. McNeil, the maker of Tylenol, a division of Johnson & Johnson, has created a recall Web site to help consumers determine if they have any of the recalled products. Or they can call (888) 222-6036 to inquire about refunds.
