The sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood which poses a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) (which were incorporated into an industry voluntary standard in 1997) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments.
To this date there have been no reports of incidents involving the recalled clothing.
The recall involves children’s hooded sweatshirts sizes 2T through 12, sold in a variety of colors. Style numbers are: KD102, KD124 and KFS102.
Consumers can return the item to Sunsations for a refund or remove the drawstring from the sweatshirt to eliminate a strangulation hazard.
