A motorcycle accident in Indianapolis left a Richmond man, 21, hospitalized but in good condition.

The accident happened Wednesday night, just after 6:30 p.m. on Wernle Road. The motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Wernel Road when he lost control of the bike and skid about 800 feet off the north side of the roadway.

Witnesses told Wayne county Sheriff deputies he was speeding. He suffered several fractures and internal injuries, according to police. He was not wearing a helmet.

A newly released study finds motorcycle traffic fatalities in Indiana declined more than 14 percent last year, reflecting a nationwide trend.
